This May/June I am in Richmond, Virginia for a 3-week residency at VisArts (Visual Arts Center of Richmond). I have been given space to live and work for the entire time as well as access to the amazing facilities at VisArts. I’ve recently returned to painting/collage processes I developed in graduate school, which are now being inspired by garment making. The residency is giving me the time and space to figure out what the work needs from me and to resolve 2 new paintings. I’m aiming to have a new series of colorful (enamel, paint, powder coat) jewelry objects under way by the end of the residency as well. A very busy start to the year had stifled my art practice but is feeling reenergized now. This residency is a reset and I’m very grateful for the generosity of the VisArts team.
My residency precedes an exhibition that will be held later this year in the VisArts True F. Luck Gallery, which will be a group exhibition of the expanded jewelry practices of 10 Baltimore artists. Most of the work I’m producing now will be part of that exhibition. I’ll post more details later this year. I’m excited to share new things with those following along.
